Ice Crack (Open Crack) Manufacturing Process
The ice crack pattern, also known as open crack, is formed through high-temperature reduction firing.
Before firing, the glaze applied to the cup is in a slurry form. As the kiln temperature rises, moisture gradually decreases. When the temperature reaches the mineral melting point of the glaze, the minerals completely liquefy, covering the surface of the body.
When the kiln reaches its highest temperature, the fire can be turned off, and cooling begins until the glaze surface solidifies. Due to the different expansion coefficients between the glaze and the clay body, the glaze surface subsequently cracks due to the tension created during cooling, resulting in the ice crack pattern!
“Stream” Shape Rib Design
The interior features long, medium, and short ribs, with long ribs extending to the base outlet, ensuring smooth flow even towards the end of brewing.
The lower section has a lower density of ribs, which restricts flow speed, balancing the rapid flow from the larger outlet and enhancing the coffee’s sweet and balanced flavor.
