The Beauty of Falling Flowers and Flowing Water
The Craft Spirit Small Cup -《Fall Flowers and Flower Water》draws inspiration from the flowing streams in summer woods, with natural patterns resembling white petals floating on a river-like green glaze.
The upper half of the cup features interlocking cracks, and the ice-crack pattern enhances the overall depth of the cup, presenting the scenery of falling flowers and flowing water in a more three-dimensional way.
Ice-Crack (Opening) Technique
Ice-crack patterns, also known as opening, are created through high-temperature reduction firing.
Before firing, the glaze applied to the cup is in a slurry form. As the kiln temperature rises, moisture gradually decreases. When the temperature reaches the mineral melting point of the glaze, the minerals completely liquefy, covering the surface of the body.
Once the kiln reaches its highest temperature, firing can be stopped, and cooling begins until the glaze solidifies. Due to the differing expansion coefficients between the glaze and the body, the glaze surface will crack as it cools, resulting in the ice-crack pattern.
